Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury said.

The launch will be reserved for invited guests and families of those killed in the uprising. The museum will open to the public Thursday, Aug. 6.

Chowdhury announced the schedule at a briefing around 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Culture Ministry conference room. He said Rahman would unveil the museum plaque as chief guest, tour its galleries and exhibitions, and view preserved artifacts, photographs, documents and memorial objects about the uprising.

The minister described the museum as a memorial to the sacrifices of those killed and the July fighters and as an institution intended to preserve what he called a defining milestone in Bangladesh’s anti-fascist democratic struggle for future generations.

July fighters and relatives of those killed will speak at the opening about the uprising’s acts of courage and sacrifice. A documentary will show its sequence of events, public participation and victory, Chowdhury said.

The cultural program will feature patriotic songs, recitations and performances by prominent artists highlighting the uprising, patriotism and democratic values.

Senior government officials, ministry and division representatives, diplomats, intellectuals, academics, cultural figures, July fighters, relatives of those killed, politicians, journalists and other invited guests are expected to attend. The museum’s director general will deliver closing thanks to participants and guests.

Tickets will be available online and will cost 50 taka for adults and 25 taka for children.
