Police have arrested Rajan Hossain, 35, an expatriate, in connection with the sensational murder of a housewife, Pinky, in Jibannagar of Chuadanga.
Jibannagar police station officers arrested him in the capital, Dhaka, on Wednesday morning (June 17).
The arrested man, Rajan Hossain, is the son of Yunus Ali of Dumuria village in the upazila. He had returned home from Saudi Arabia two months before the killing. He went into hiding after the murder.
The slain housewife, Pinky, was a separated woman and mother of two from Dumuria village.
On April 18 this year, two months ago, Rajan hacked the housewife Babita Khatun, also known as Pinky, 27, indiscriminately while she was asleep in Dumuria village of Andulbaria union in the upazila, seriously injuring her, police said. Family members later admitted her to Jibannagar hospital.
As her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. She died there while undergoing treatment at about 10:30 p.m. on April 20.
While undergoing treatment, Pinky told police that Rajan had hacked her indiscriminately, seriously injured her and fled, according to her statement. She also kicked Rajan Hossain at the time, the statement said. She was hacked and injured mainly for refusing to respond to an immoral proposal from Rajan Hossain, according to the statement.
Mintu Rahman, the ward member of Andulbaria union council concerned, confirmed the incident and said Pinky’s uncle, Anwar Hossain, filed a case at the police station against the expatriate-returnee Rajan Hossain for his involvement in the incident. Rajan Hossain had been on the run since the case was filed. Police arrested him in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon and brought him to the police station.
Jibannagar police station officer-in-charge Solaiman Sheikh said the expatriate-returnee Rajan Hossain is an accused named in the case over the murder of the housewife Babita Khatun, also known as Pinky. Rajan Hossain had been absconding since the incident. He was arrested in Dhaka on Wednesday morning. He was produced before the court after questioning.
