Algeria came from behind to beat Jordan 2-1 with a fine fightback in a World Cup Group J match. With the win in the match at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on Monday (June 23), the North African side kept alive their hopes of reaching the knockout round.

Although Algeria played attacking football from the start, they could not find a goal in the first half. Instead, in the 36th minute, Nizar Al-Rashdan scored from a Musa Al-Tamari assist to put Jordan 1-0 ahead.

After the break, the Algeria coach made several changes aimed at turning the match around, and the result came quickly. In the 68th minute, Nadhir Benbouali headed in an equaliser from a corner taken by captain Riyad Mahrez.

Algeria pressed forward even more after levelling. In the end, in the 82nd minute, Amine Gouiri seized on a scramble from a corner to bundle the ball home from close range, putting Algeria 2-1 ahead.

Jordan tried to equalise in the closing stages, but their attack was repelled by Algeria’s defence, and Mahrez’s side left the field with three crucial points.

With this win, Algeria have three points from two matches and have kept their hopes in the group alive. Jordan, on the other hand, have made their knockout dream even harder with a second straight defeat.
