Two sides of the Jagannath University unit of Chhatra Dal have clashed again. Several people are reported to have been injured. The incident took place on the university campus on Sunday afternoon (September 20).
Initial information suggests the clash was between followers of the Jagannath University Chhatra Dal member secretary, Shamsul Arefin, and those of the 17th joint convener, Nahiyan Bin Haque Anik.
According to students who witnessed it, the clash began beside a tea stall in the Victoria Park area of old Dhaka and later spread to the Kathaltala area of the university. Several people were seen taking part in the attack there with rods and pipes.
Those hurt are said to include Madud, a 21st-batch student of the economics department, and Imon, a 19th-batch student of the public administration department. Details of the total number of injured and their condition were not immediately available.
The specific cause of the clash was not immediately known either.
Asked about it, the university proctor, Professor Dr Azam Khan, said police had been called after news of the clash between the two sides. The situation is now under control, he said. In his account nobody was seriously hurt and a few people may have received minor injuries.
Details of the university authorities’ next steps over the continuing episode were not immediately available.
