Free rice seeds and fertilizer were distributed to selected farmers in Jagannathpur upazila, Sunamganj, as part of a government incentive program. The event was held at the upazila agriculture office compound on Sunday (July 5) morning.
Upazila executive officer Islam Uddin presided over the ceremony, which was attended by local elected representatives, agriculture department officials, and journalists.
According to the upazila agriculture office, each selected smallholder and marginal farmer received 5 kg of improved aman rice seeds, 10 kg of DAP fertilizer, and 10 kg of MOP fertilizer free of charge. The government incentive program aims to increase aman rice cultivation, boost production, and reduce farmers’ input costs.
Speakers at the event said the government is providing various forms of support to farmers to increase agricultural production and ensure food security, adding that such programs encourage adoption of modern and improved farming technology.
