Dhaka College Chhatra Shibir office secretary Abdul Malek was hospitalized in critical condition after an alleged attack by campus Chhatra Dal activists on Tuesday, a Shibir official said.
Malek was admitted to Popular Hospital in Dhanmondi after the incident at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. Chhatra Dal members later held a march on campus at about 1:30 p.m.
Dhaka College Chhatra Shibir Finance Secretary Mohammad Mamun said the organization had arranged a reception for families of those killed in the July uprising and a discussion marking its anniversary in the college’s Gallery 2.
Mamun said five or six people led by Malek were decorating the gallery when 20 to 25 Chhatra Dal members arrived and attacked them. He alleged that the group was led by Parvez Mosharraf, a member of the Dhaka College Chhatra Dal convening committee.
Mamun said Malek suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Popular Hospital for treatment.
Dhaka College Principal A.K.M. Elias said regular classes and examinations had continued since morning but there was some tension over a Chhatra Dal march. He said he had received no report of a major clash, although a complaint had been filed that an Islami Chhatra Andolan student was beaten on suspicion of being a Chhatra League member.
