A Chhatra Dal leader arrested in a case over allegedly detaining a young man, blackmailing the wife of an expatriate, demanding extortion money and collecting a ransom in Mathbaria, Pirojpur, has been expelled from the organisation.
The Pirojpur district unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has expelled K M Ilias, a former joint convener of the Mathbaria upazila unit, from primary membership and all organisational posts.
The decision was announced on Friday (July 9) in a press release signed by the district Chhatra Dal’s office secretary (with the rank of joint general secretary), Khalid Hasan.
The release said that, on specific allegations of breaching organisational discipline, Md K M Ilias had been expelled from all posts, including primary membership. It also directed Chhatra Dal leaders and workers at all levels to keep no organisational ties with him.
The release noted that the district Chhatra Dal president, Salauddin Talukdar Kumar, and general secretary, Mahmud Hasan Shaheen, had approved the expulsion.
Police recently arrested K M Ilias in a case filed on allegations that a young man was detained in Mathbaria, 100,000 taka was demanded as extortion and 30,000 taka was collected as ransom. The district Chhatra Dal then took organisational action against him.
