PM urges Banglalink to make smartphones more affordable

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged Banglalink to take steps to deliver smartphones to customers at affordable prices. He made the call on Monday when Augie Fabela, chairman of Veon, Banglalink’s parent company, came to meet him.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in the National Parliament building. Making digital services more accessible was discussed.

The prime minister also urged Banglalink to take steps to deliver smartphones to customers at more affordable prices, so that people of all classes and professions could have one. He also called for consideration of further reducing internet prices.

Present were Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam; the prime minister’s adviser on post, telecommunications and information technology and science and technology, Rehan Asif Asad; Veon board member Michel Sweeting; and Banglalink chief executive officer Johan Hendrik Martinus Buse.
