Miscreants have hacked and slit the throat of a tea-stall owner, Farooq Sheikh, 45, in Goalanda, Rajbari.

Police recovered his bloodied body from his own home in the Jamtala area of Goalanda municipality on Saturday afternoon, August 22.

The victim, Farooq, was the son of Khalek Sheikh of the Ishaq Miar Para area, Ward 4, Goalanda municipality. He ran a tea stall in the area of Daulatdia Ghat.

Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Goalandaghat police station, confirmed the incident, saying: “Police went to the scene after receiving the news and recovered the body. There are marks of sharp-weapon wounds on the neck and hands. A CID team is coming to the scene. Once the investigation is complete, we’ll know the motive for the killing and who was involved.”

The victim’s brother, Barek Sheikh, said the two of them ran the tea stall at Daulatdia Ghat together, taking turns managing it. Farooq’s shift ended Friday, so he came home. On Saturday afternoon, Barek brought food to the house. Entering the room, he found his brother lying in a pool of blood. His screams brought neighbors running, and police were informed.

The victim’s father, Khalek Sheikh, said his son had marks of sharp-weapon wounds on his neck, hands and feet. He demanded the death penalty for whoever entered the house and killed him so brutally.
