Jamaat expels MP Gazi Nazrul Islam

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled Gazi Nazrul Islam, the member of parliament for Satkhira-4. The party also decided to inform the Bangladesh Election Commission of the expulsion immediately.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the party’s central executive council held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the official residence of the leader of the opposition on Mintoo Road in the capital. The meeting was chaired by party Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, MP.

In a press release, the party said an organizational inquiry had been conducted into allegations against Gazi Nazrul Islam recently published in various media. As the inquiry found the allegations of moral lapse proven, it was decided to expel him under Article 62 of the party’s constitution.

Members of the central executive council attended the meeting, which also decided that the Election Commission would be informed of the expulsion immediately.
