A 13-year-old schoolgirl has died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Saharbati village of Gangni upazila in Meherpur. She died while under treatment on Sunday (July 12) morning.

The incident happened earlier, late at night on Saturday (July 11), in the bedroom of her own home.

The girl, a seventh-grade student of a local secondary school, was a resident of the Dakshinpara area of Saharbati village.

According to local sources, the girl was asleep in her bedroom at night when a venomous snake bit her. When she fell ill, family members quickly took her to the Gangni Upazila Health Complex. As no clear sign of a snakebite was found there, she was taken to a traditional healer in Hariadaha village.

Later, as her physical condition worsened, family members admitted her to the 250-bed Meherpur General Hospital, where she died while under treatment on Sunday morning.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni police station, Muhaddid Morshed Chowdhury, confirmed the information.
