A mobile court under the Fish Protection and Conservation Act was conducted at various points on the Brahmaputra river in Mymensingh’s Gaffargaon. The drive ran from 11am to 1pm on Thursday (11 June), implemented by the upazila administration and the Department of Fisheries, Gaffargaon, under the Fish Protection and Conservation Act 1950 (amended), led by senior upazila fisheries officer Tahmina Khatun and assistant commissioner (land) Amir Salman Roni. Gaffargaon police officers and fisheries office staff were present.

A tough drive was carried out against banned China-duari nets at various points on the Brahmaputra, seizing about 1,750 metres — 35 China-duari nets — which were destroyed in public. Awareness was raised among local people and five people were fined. Senior upazila fisheries officer Tahmina Khatun said: “Fishermen must refrain from these illegal activities through awareness and respect for the fisheries law. Legal action will be taken against those who catch fish with illegal China and current nets.”
