KOTCHANDPUR — Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir activists held a protest rally in Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah, on Sunday to demand the trial of those responsible for the July killings.
The rally was held Sunday afternoon, July 27, organized by Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Carrying banners that read “Protest rally demanding trial of July genocide (July Droho),” the procession started from Baluhar bus stand and moved through Hospital Road, Brijghat intersection, Payra Square, the municipal library and the post office intersection before ending at the main bus stand. Hundreds of Islami Chhatra Shibir Kotchandpur upazila branch activists took part.
Shibir district secretary Ubaidur Rahman spoke as chief guest. “In July, a genocide was carried out under state sponsorship. Even today, those killings have not been tried. We demand exemplary punishment for those responsible,” he said.
Also present were district office secretary Riazul Islam, former upazila president Shafiq Hasan and upazila president Hafez Mujahidul Islam.
