An exchange meeting was held in Chhoto Bhakla union of Goalanda upazila in Rajbari to advance implementation of the Farmer Card programme announced by the prime minister. The day-long meeting was organised from 9am on Thursday on the grounds of Hauli Keutil Government Primary School in the upazila’s Chhoto Bhakla union.
The meeting was arranged to ensure the programme’s activities were carried out properly, to verify beneficiary farmers, and to ensure effective implementation at the field level. Held under the auspices of the upazila agriculture extension office, it was chaired by Upazila Agriculture Officer, agriculturist Syed Raihanul Haider. Present as guests were Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Md Shahadat Hossain and Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md Anwarul Islam Pilot.
Speakers at the meeting said the Farmer Card programme was an important initiative for farmers, through which genuine farmers could be properly identified and government support delivered to them. They added that the list of farmers must be prepared with transparency so that no irregularity occurred.
In his chair’s remarks, the upazila agriculture officer said that making the prime minister’s initiative a success required the sincere cooperation of local public representatives and farmers alongside field-level officials. “We want it to be genuine farmers who get the benefit of this card,” he said.
Local farmers, public representatives and officials of the departments concerned attended the exchange meeting, presenting their views and giving various directions to make the programme a success.
