Forty-six teachers at the main branch of Motijheel Ideal School and College in the capital have been transferred all at once to the institution’s Banashree and Mugda branches. The transfer order was issued around midnight Sunday, August 23, with the consent of the institution’s governing body members.
Principal Professor Lal Mohammad described the move as an administrative reform, saying the tough decision was taken to root out corruption. The transferred teachers had worked continuously at the Motijheel main branch for the past five to seven years. Several teachers said the transfer order for all 46 was issued suddenly around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Some of the transferred teachers later went to the Secretariat on Monday, August 24, to discuss the matter with education ministry officials.
The teachers allege that, before the institution published the transfer information on its website, an individual based in Australia shared it on social media. They have also raised questions about how confidential the transfer process actually was. Motijheel Ideal School and College has three branches — the main branch in Motijheel, and the Banashree and Mugda branches. Roughly 28,000 students study across the three branches, which employ around 700 teachers and more than 200 support staff.
