Two more die of measles-like symptoms; 880 new cases

Two children died of measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 880 children were newly diagnosed with measles or measles-like symptoms during the same period. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in its latest measles update on Saturday afternoon.

The notice said two more children died of measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, though no child died of confirmed measles during that period.

That brings the total number of children who have died with measles-like symptoms nationwide since March 15 to 831, with a further 99 children who died of confirmed measles. In other words, a combined 930 children have died of measles or measles-like symptoms during this period.

In addition, 65 children were confirmed to have measles in the past 24 hours, while 815 patients showed measles-like symptoms. During this period, 758 children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 593 children were discharged.

DGHS data show that the total number of suspected measles cases from March 15 to date stands at 148,406, with 18,273 confirmed cases. Of these, 129,583 patients in total have been hospitalized, of whom 125,151 have already been discharged and returned home.
