Food and cash assistance from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund were distributed to needy and vulnerable people ahead of Eid ul-Adha at the Iva Community Centre in Mirsharai’s Bartakia market on Tuesday.
Maulana Nurul Kabir, amir of the Mirsharai upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, presided over the event. Shamsunnahar Begum, Jamaat-e-Islami MP from the reserved women’s seat, attended as chief guest.
Bringing a smile to vulnerable and needy people is the central aim of the program, Begum said. The humanitarian work was launched to spread the joy of Eid across society, she said, urging affluent members of the community to stand beside those in need.
Other guests included Tanjina Akhtar Lipi, secretary of the women’s wing of the Mirsharai upazila Jamaat-e-Islami; Zobaida Akhtar, secretary of the Quran teaching wing; Zubaida Joba, secretary of the human resources wing; Nurul Islam Titu, president of the upazila workers’ welfare federation; and Maulana Shihab Uddin, amir of Mirsharai municipality. Hafez Ekramul Haque, amir of Ward 12 Khoiyachhara union, and other officials also attended.
