Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated “Nazrul Year 2026-27” at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 2), launching simultaneous celebrations across all 64 districts and 74 selected upazilas.
The government declared the year-long observance to mark the 127th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The period runs from May 25, 2026, to May 25, 2027.
The prime minister had first announced the Nazrul Year at a ceremony in Trishal, Mymensingh, on May 25 marking the poet’s birth anniversary. Thursday’s event was the formal inauguration of that declaration.
During the ceremony, the prime minister said the government is committed to ensuring that no living being becomes a victim of violence.
