Football has seen countless legends — Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo Nazario, Diego Maradona, Pele. Each was extraordinary in their own way — ball control, finishing, pace, or physical power — but each also had limitations.

Erling Haaland appears to be changing that equation. After eliminating five-time champions Brazil from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a question has resurfaced: is Haaland simply a gifted athlete, or something closer to a bio-engineered sporting machine?

Standing 6 feet 4 inches tall, the Norwegian striker’s explosive pace, powerful build, and near-mechanical goal-scoring ability have made him one of the world’s most feared forwards. But it is not just natural talent — it is the scientific approach to his body and lifestyle that sets him apart.

A 6,000-calorie diet

While most footballers rely on protein shakes and measured carbohydrate intake, Haaland’s diet is strikingly different. According to Spanish outlet Hola, he consumes approximately 6,000 calories daily, with a particular emphasis on organ meats including cow heart and liver.

In his documentary “Haaland: The Big Decision,” he said: “Many people don’t eat these foods. But I’m very conscious about taking care of my body.”

He also drinks specially filtered water rather than regular water, and consumes a blend of raw milk, spinach, and kale that he jokingly calls his “magic potion.”

Sleep as the ultimate weapon

Haaland believes sleep is the most important factor in a footballer’s performance. He aims for 10 to 11 hours of sleep each night and takes regular afternoon naps.

According to Men’s Health, he wears orange-tinted glasses approximately three hours before bed to reduce the effects of artificial light and support natural melatonin production. He also uses mouth tape during sleep to maintain nasal breathing, which improves oxygen intake and supports a healthy heart rhythm during deep sleep. All electronic devices are switched off before bed.

Training and recovery

Haaland’s training regime focuses on strength, speed, and flexibility. Former Red Bull Salzburg coach Stanislav Masek said that as a teenager, Haaland’s daily routine included 300 push-ups and 1,000 sit-ups, alongside hill sprints and regular yoga.

Recovery receives equal attention. According to The Mirror, he spent approximately 50,000 pounds installing a state-of-the-art cryotherapy chamber at his home. The extreme cold helps reduce lactic acid, control inflammation, and accelerate recovery, keeping his body fresh through sustained high-intensity matches.
