A woman, Habibar Rahman Babli, 48, has gone missing after going into the Ichhamati river to bathe in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj.
It happened at around 2:45pm on Sunday (4 October) at the Gudara ghat on the Ichhamati in Fegunasar village, Malkhanagar union. A team from Sirajdikhan fire station began a rescue operation, and divers from Munshiganj fire station later began searching the river.
The missing woman and two friends, all from Dhaka, were visiting a friend, Chameli, at her home in Bhuiyabari, Sirajdikhan. They went into the river to bathe on Sunday afternoon; in the strong current the two friends managed to swim out, but Babli went missing.
Munshiganj Fire Service deputy assistant director Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said fire service and civil defence divers were searching. The strong current makes the operation very risky, but the divers are doing all they can and the search will continue until she is found, he said.
