Six more dengue deaths as 1,608 are admitted to hospital

Six more people have died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, and 1,608 patients have been admitted to hospital with the disease. That makes 11 deaths and 4,749 cases in the first three days of this month.

The figures came in a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services’ Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room on Saturday.

Between 8am on Friday and 8am on Saturday, 215 patients were admitted in Barishal division, 319 in Chattogram, 131 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 171 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 223 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 276 in Khulna, 79 in Mymensingh, 132 in Rajshahi and 62 in Rangpur, the release said. In the same period 1,621 patients were discharged after recovering.

Dengue cases this year now total 84,369 and deaths 256, the directorate said. September was the deadliest month, with 148 deaths. Of all patients this year, 62.4 percent are male and 37.6 percent female.
