LALMOHAN, Bhola — A scrap warehouse in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola was destroyed in a fire early Monday, causing about 7 lakh taka in damage, according to the owner.
The fire broke out around 3 a.m. on Sunday night, Jan. 18, in the Kartarkachhari area near Miyar Hat Road in ward 1 of Lalmohan union.
A fire service team reached the scene and brought the blaze under control, but by then the contents of the warehouse had been reduced to ash, officials said.
Md. Rubel Mia, the warehouse owner, accused two men identified as Ratan and Dulal of setting the warehouse on fire deliberately because of a land dispute. The fire destroyed all the materials stored inside, he said, putting his losses at about 7 lakh taka.
Ratan and Dulal denied the allegation. “There may be enmity, but that does not mean we would burn down someone’s shop,” they said, calling the claim entirely false and fabricated.
Khorshed Alam, acting station officer of the Lalmohan Fire Service, said an initial assessment suggested a short circuit may have caused the fire.
