RANGAMATI — A Bengal slow loris rescued from a settlement in the Burighat union of Rangamati’s Naniarchar upazila was released into Kaptai National Park, forest officials said.
Forest workers led by Masum Alam, assistant conservator of forests for the Chittagong Hill Tracts South Forest Division, released the endangered primate on Tuesday evening at the park.
Also present were Mohammad ASM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Kaptai range officer of the forest department; Mohammad Sirajul Islam, Naniarchar station officer of the Unclassed Forest Afforestation Division; Mohammad Anwar Hossain, headquarters range officer; and Mohammad Monir Hossain, Burighat station officer.
Mohiuddin said the slow loris released at Kaptai National Park was rescued from Naniarchar on Monday by the forest department.
The Bengal slow loris is on the red list of endangered species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Several primates of this species have been released into Kaptai National Park in recent months, all rescued from settlements in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
