DINAJPUR — Social Welfare Minister Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is built on the ideals of Shaheed Zia and believes in democracy and the empowerment of the people. Begum Khaleda Zia has always fought for democracy and was persecuted for trying to restore democratic rights, he said. If everyone cooperates with the current government, Bangladesh can be made livable for future generations, he said.
The minister spoke Thursday, March 19, at an event in Hili, Dinajpur, where food grain, corrugated tin sheets and cash were distributed under a humanitarian assistance program to poor families affected by a hailstorm.
Everyone must speak out against any injustice, oppression or wrongdoing and inform the administration, he said, because some people will try to tarnish the government’s image. For that reason, BNP leaders and workers must also stay vocal, he said.
Earlier, the minister visited damaged homes in several villages in Boaldar Union No. 2 of Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur.
Hakimpur Upazila Executive Officer Ashok Kumar Chakma, upazila BNP President Ferdous Rahman, General Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi, municipal BNP Vice President Farid Khan, General Secretary Nazmul Haque, Hakimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zakir Hossain and Upazila Project Implementation Officer Masud Rana were among those present.
