CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — A mobile court in Chougachha upazila of Jashore district has sentenced four men to 10 days in jail and fined each of them 100 taka for cannabis use, officials said.
The court conducted the drive Wednesday afternoon at Chandpur Bottola intersection in the town, led by Farzana Islam, upazila chief executive officer and executive magistrate of the mobile court, officials said.
Those sentenced were Mominur Rahman, son of Muntaj Ali; Ejazul Islam, son of Daud Ali; and Nazrul Islam, son of Yusuf Ali, all from Chandpur village in Ward 9 of Chougachha municipality; and Kamrul Islam, son of Nurul Islam of South Koyarpara village in Sadar union, officials said.
Farzana Islam said the four were sentenced to 10 days of imprisonment without labor under section 36(1), subsection 5 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, for using cannabis. A combined fine of 400 taka, 100 taka from each, was also collected, she said. Such drives would continue in the public interest, she said.
