THAKURGAON — Police have arrested a Jubo Dal leader in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district on charges of snatching answer scripts and other documents from a college recruitment examination, officials said.
The case names nine people, including the upazila BNP president, and lists another 35 to 40 unidentified suspects.
Police identified the arrested man as Shariful Islam Sharif, office secretary of the upazila Jubo Dal. He was detained Saturday evening, March 14, in the Jaduranibazar area of the upazila. Sharif is the son of Abul Hossain of Nilgaon village in the upazila.
According to the first information report, a fourth-class staff recruitment examination for Medinisagar Technical and BM College was being held on Friday, March 13, at the office of the Haripur upazila nirbahi officer. A group of men entered the venue without warning and tried to forcibly seize answer scripts and other documents, the report said, creating panic at the test center and disrupting the exam.
After the incident, college authorities informed local administration and police. Following an inquiry, a case was filed naming Haripur upazila BNP president Jamal Uddin and eight others. Police arrested Sharif shortly after the case was registered.
Abdul Hakim Azad, officer-in-charge of Haripur police station, confirmed the arrest. “Sharif has been arrested over the attempt to snatch the recruitment exam papers,” he said. “Operations are continuing to identify and bring the other accused to book.”
Police said the matter is being investigated thoroughly and further action will follow legal procedure.
