KISHOREGANJ — At least 30 people were injured in repeated clashes between supporters of the BNP and the banned Awami League over local dominance in Kishoreganj’s Mithamoin upazila, police said.

The clashes took place Monday, March 23, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Hemantganj area of Keoarjor union. Two of the injured were in critical condition and were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police and local sources said a long-running feud had been brewing between supporters of Kashem, chairman of Keoarjor Union Parishad and a known Awami League leader, and followers of Nazir, a BNP supporter from the same village. The two sides clashed Monday morning with locally made weapons, spreading panic across the area during the roughly hourlong confrontation.

At least 30 people from both sides were injured, with two in critical condition sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Others were being treated at Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex and other hospitals.

Mithamoin Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Liaqat Ali said officers from the Katkhal police outpost and Mithamoin Police Station reached the scene after being alerted and brought the situation under control.
