BARISHAL, Bangladesh — The Barishal City Corporation has ordered the removal of all illegal shops and structures from sidewalks, roads and public spaces by April 10, warning that eviction drives will follow for those who do not comply.
The corporation issued the notice Friday afternoon, April 3, directing occupants to clear illegal installations on their own initiative by the deadline.
The notice said that if the structures are not removed within the specified time, eviction drives will be carried out by executive magistrates and legal action will be taken against illegal occupiers.
City Corporation Administrator Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin said most of the city’s sidewalks are occupied, disrupting normal pedestrian movement. If anyone fails to voluntarily remove their structures by the deadline, a strict eviction drive will be carried out, she said.
The City Corporation has also opened two WhatsApp numbers, 01616164696 and 01730441335, where residents can directly report problems, complaints and suggestions. Residents have been urged to send information, photos and videos through the lines.
