NILPHAMARI — Hasanur Rahman, a Jubo Dal leader in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari, has been expelled from the party after he was accused of threatening to beat the upazila health and family planning officer over a tender, the party said. Rahman had been the joint general secretary of the upazila Jubo Dal. The party also called for legal action against him.

The expulsion was announced in a notice signed by Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, joint office secretary of the Jubo Dal’s central committee, on Thursday night, March 12, the party said.

The notice said Rahman, the joint general secretary of the Kishoreganj upazila Jubo Dal under the Saidpur political district, had been expelled from the party, including from his primary membership, for violating party discipline and engaging in misconduct contrary to the party’s principles, ideals and unity. Abdul Monaem Munna, president of the central executive committee of the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, and Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan, the general secretary, have implemented the decision, the notice said.

The notice also said the party would take no responsibility for any wrongdoing by the expelled member. It instructed leaders and members at all levels of the Jubo Dal not to maintain organizational ties with him and urged law enforcement agencies to take necessary legal action.

Hasanur and several others went to the upazila health officer’s room Tuesday morning and threatened to beat him after not receiving a tender to supply food to the upazila health complex, the party said. The threats led doctors and nurses at the hospital to stop work. The Jubo Dal leader later apologized and acknowledged his mistake to the health officer.
