BGB seizes 5.5 million taka in contraband in Chuadanga raids

CHUADANGA — Border Guard Bangladesh personnel from the Chuadanga BGB-6 Battalion seized drugs and contraband worth 5,524,354 taka during a week-long anti-narcotics and anti-smuggling drive between July 23 and July 30. The seized items included Indian silver, narcotics and other contraband.

Haider Ali, assistant director of the Chuadanga-6 BGB Battalion, said the goods seized through Wednesday afternoon, July 30, included 10.834 kg of Indian granular silver, 144 bottles of foreign liquor, 14 kg of cannabis, 38 bottles of Phensedyl, 20 grams of heroin, 44 Viagra tablets, 100 Chinese duari fishing nets, 29 saris, 13 three-piece outfits, 20 kg of Indian onion seeds, 200 leaf bidis, 127 cosmetic items and two mobile phones, among other contraband.

Two smugglers were detained during the operations, he said. Legal action was taken against the detainees, who were handed over to local police stations and sent to jail through the courts.

Intelligence surveillance has been stepped up against drug and smuggling networks long active along the Chuadanga and Meherpur border areas, he said, and regular operations are continuing at potential infiltration points along the border.
