CHUADANGA — Fifteen Bangladeshi nationals were formally handed over from India through the Darshana Integrated Check Post in the Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district.
The handover was completed at a battalion commander-level flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31.
According to Chuadanga-6 BGB sources, the 15 Bangladeshis had been detained at various times on charges of illegally crossing the border into India, and India’s 32 BSF returned them on Wednesday after a lengthy process. After the flag meeting, the BGB formally took custody of them from the Indian side.
Chuadanga-6 BGB commander Nazmul Hasan said the Bangladeshis returned by the BSF had been held in the Narnaul jail in India’s Haryana state. After initial screening, they were handed over to Darshana police, he said.
Darshana police officer in charge Shaheed Titumir confirmed the handover.
