DHAKA — Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party and former information adviser, visited Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman in a Dhaka hospital where he is awaiting bypass surgery, party officials said.
Shafiqur Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami’s ameer, was admitted to a hospital in the capital for bypass surgery to clear a blockage in his heart. Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and former information adviser, went to the hospital to inquire about his health.
Nahid went to United Hospital in Gulshan on Thursday evening. The two spoke privately in the ameer’s cabin. Ariful Islam Adib, senior joint convenor of the NCP, accompanied Nahid. Mohammad Nazrul Islam, personal secretary to the Jamaat ameer, confirmed the visit to Manabzamin late Thursday and shared a photo.
Necessary tests for the bypass surgery are underway, the personal secretary said. The results received so far show the ameer is physically fit, doctors said. If everything goes as planned, the operation will take place Saturday.
