DHAKA — Interim government information adviser Mahfuj Alam said the footsteps of a one-eleven scenario can be heard, referring to the 2007 military-backed caretaker government.
He made the remark in a Facebook post around 6:40 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4.
Alam’s comment has stirred wide curiosity on social media, with users posting a range of responses. His remark followed comments by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a Supreme Court event last Thursday evening hosted by the Nationalist Lawyers Forum on “The role of lawyers on the path from fascism to democracy.” Alamgir said unusual events were unfolding in the country’s political situation and that the signs were not good. He warned that a recurrence of one-eleven was not impossible unless all stayed united and alert.
