DHAKA — The Election Commission will formally announce the work plan, or roadmap, for the 13th national parliamentary election on Thursday, Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said Wednesday.

Akhtar made the announcement at a briefing for reporters at the Election Commission Building media center in the capital’s Agargaon area.

Responding to a question from journalists, the EC secretary said: “We will let you know about the work plan we have prepared. I have fallen a little behind because I was outside Dhaka. It is on my desk now. Please wait until tomorrow.”

Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin chaired a meeting with four election commissioners and the EC secretary at which the commission approved the roadmap for the 13th national election.

Officials said the roadmap could be formally announced at any time.

One election commissioner said: “Everything in the work plan has been finalized. It has been approved. Only the typing is left.”

As part of preparations for the parliamentary election, the commission has previously addressed party registration, constituency delimitation, election observers, reform of the Representation of the People Order, issuance of rules and policies, IT-supported registration and postal ballots for expatriates, and the procurement of election materials. All have been included in the roadmap.
