SAVAR — Chhatra Dal’s vice-president candidate and his followers entered Hall No. 15, formerly Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall, with a group and caused disorder during the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election, raising a false allegation of vote rigging. A Chhatra Dal activist named Jishan shoved a journalist by the throat when the reporter tried to film the scene.
According to eyewitnesses and the hall’s returning officer, the ink used on voters’ fingers during voting was being wiped off. The female students complained about this. Those whose ink was being wiped off were then gathered together. At that moment, the Chhatra Dal VP candidate and his followers, led by BNP-affiliated teacher Professor Nazrul Islam, suddenly entered Hall No. 15. The Chhatra Dal VP candidate, Sheikh Sadi Hasan, entered the center directly. The female students protested when he entered the center along with his followers. A disorderly situation developed. When several journalists tried to film the scene, Chhatra Dal activist Jishan shoved one of them. This created a heated situation.
The election commission and proctor eventually brought the situation under control. As of the latest reports, voting remains suspended.
