DHAKA — The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party electoral alliance has finalized its candidate list for the 13th parliament’s reserved seats for women.
The alliance released the list on Monday evening.
According to the final list, 8 of the 13 candidates for the reserved women’s seats are from Jamaat-e-Islami, with the remaining 5 from other coalition partners and special categories.
The nominees are: Nurun Nisa Siddika, Marzia Begum, Sabikun Nahar Munni, Mardia Momtaz, Nazmun Nahar Nilu, Mahfuza Siddika, Sajeda Samad and Shamsun Nahar from Jamaat-e-Islami; Monira Sharmin and Mahmuda Alam Mitu from the National Citizen Party (NCP); JAGPA chairman Tasmia Pradhan; Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis women’s wing member Mahbuba Hakim; and Rokeya Begum, the mother of July martyr child Jabir Ibrahim.
The 11-party alliance won 77 seats in the Feb. 12 national parliament elections. Under parliamentary rules, the coalition gets 13 reserved women’s seats based on its tally. The BNP, meanwhile, has secured 36 of the 50 reserved women’s seats.
