NARAYANGANJ — A 65-year-old man has died after being injured in a clash between two factions of Jubo Dal in Narayanganj’s Araihazar, police said.

Abdul Baten Mia died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday morning, Oct. 16. He had been hospitalized after being injured Wednesday evening in a clash in the Rasulpur area of Satgram union in the upazila.

Baten was the son of the late Lal Mia of the area and the father of Shahjahan Mia, senior vice president of ward 3 of Satgram union Jubo Dal.

Azizul Haque, brother of Jubo Dal leader Shahjahan Mia, was also injured and remains hospitalized. The identities of the other injured victims were not immediately available.

According to police and local sources, there has been a feud over local dominance between Hasan Mia, the younger brother of Satgram union Jubo Dal president Rezaul Karim, and Shahjahan Mia, senior vice president of ward 3 of the union’s Jubo Dal. The two sides argued last week, and on Wednesday evening their supporters armed themselves with locally made weapons and clashed.

At least six people were injured, police said. Among them, Shahjahan Mia’s brother Azizul Haque and his father, Abdul Baten Mia, were seriously hurt and were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Baten died there about 10 a.m. Thursday. His son Azizul Haque’s condition is also critical, according to police.

Khandaker Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Araihazar Police Station, confirmed the incident.
