JASHORE — A monthly meeting of the upazila law and order committee in Chougachha, Jashore district, on Thursday banned students from bringing mobile phones to secondary schools and madrasas and ordered the removal of biri-cigarette shops within 200 meters of all secondary and higher secondary schools in the upazila.
The meeting was held at 11:40 a.m. on Oct. 30 in the upazila council hall and was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahinur Akter.
The committee decided unanimously that the upazila secondary education officer would notify all institution heads of the new rules in writing. The committee also agreed to require each secondary and higher secondary school to hold an exchange meeting with teachers and students at least once every six months.
Speakers at the meeting included Chougachha municipal administrator and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tasmin Jahan; upazila Jamaat amir Maulana Golam Morshed; upazila Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) general secretary and Hakimpur union chairman Masudul Hasan; upazila BNP vice president and Patibila union chairman Ataur Rahman Lal; freedom fighter Wajed Ali, convener of the upazila freedom fighters council; upazila Jamaat assistant secretary Master Kamal Ahmed, a former panel mayor; former upazila freedom fighters commander Ruhul Amin; Chougachha Press Club general secretary Azizur Rahman; Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Shahjadpur camp commander Mahbubur Rahman; and union chairman and freedom fighter Habibur Rahman Habi.
Also present were S.M. Mominur Rahman, Master Sirajul Islam, Nurul Kadar, Chougachha Sadar union administrator and upazila secondary education officer S.M. Bazlur Rashid, Chougachha Government College lecturer Abdul Hamid Kennedy and Tarikul Islam Municipal College lecturer Shamimur Rahman.
Press Club Chougachha vice president Rahidul Islam Khan, Chougachha Chhara Pilot Secondary School head teacher Golam Mostafa, Haji Mortuz Ali Secondary School head teacher Golam Rabbani, upazila anti-corruption committee president Kamruzzaman and Mridhapara Women’s College lecturer Enamul Kadir Tullu were also present, along with other members of the law and order committee.
