CHITALMARI — A program to distribute free seeds and fertilizer to small and marginal farmers has been launched in seven unions of Chitalmari upazila to boost rabi-season production of wheat, mung, mustard, sunflower (open-pollinated and hybrid) and grass pea.
Organized by the upazila agriculture extension office, the program was inaugurated at the upazila agriculture office grounds at 11 a.m. Thursday by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Sajjad Hossain, who chairs the upazila agricultural rehabilitation implementation committee.
Upazila agriculture extension officer Md. Habibur Rahman and officials from various upazila departments were also present.
Upazila agriculture officer and committee member secretary, agronomist Md. Sifat Al Maruf, said 870 farmers across the seven unions received support: 20 farmers received wheat, 350 received mustard, 30 received open-pollinated sunflower, 200 received hybrid sunflower, 70 received grass pea and 200 received mung.
