Dengue kills 10 in a single day, 1,069 hospitalized

DHAKA — Ten people died of Aedes-mosquito-borne dengue fever across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, and 1,069 patients were admitted to hospitals during the same period, the Directorate General of Health Services said Wednesday.

The figures were issued in a news release from the directorate’s Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room.

Of the 10 deaths in the past 24 hours, five were in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, three in the Dhaka North City Corporation area, and one each in the Khulna and Barishal divisions, the directorate said.

Of the 1,069 patients admitted in the past day, 128 were in Barishal division, 99 in Chattogram division, 219 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 251 in Dhaka North City, 152 in Dhaka South City, 68 in Khulna division outside the city corporations, 70 in Mymensingh division outside the city corporations, 34 in Rajshahi division outside the city corporations, 43 in Rangpur division outside the city corporations and 5 in Sylhet division outside the city corporations.

In the past day, 958 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals across the country, bringing this year’s total discharges to 71,487.

From January to date this year, 75,992 patients have been admitted to hospitals, and 302 have died of dengue this year.

From January through Dec. 31, 2024, 101,214 patients were admitted with dengue and 575 died of the disease. From Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2023, a total of 1,705 people died of dengue and 321,179 patients were hospitalized.
