KHOKSA, Kushtia — A man was arrested in Kushtia’s Khoksa upazila after he killed a dolphin from the Padma River and posted videos of the act on Facebook and TikTok, police said.
The suspect, Saddam Hossain, 30, was detained from Khoksa College Road around 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, and sent to jail Friday through the court, police said. He is the son of Abdul Awal of Ambaria Purbapara village in Khoksa upazila.
Saddam caught a dolphin from the Padma River on Thursday morning, killed it and posted a video to Facebook in which he carried the carcass on his shoulder, police said.
After the Kushtia Forest Department became aware of the incident, forest officials filed a case against Saddam at Khoksa Police Station under the Wildlife Conservation and Security Act. Police arrested him Friday night from Khoksa College Road and sent him to jail.
Sheikh Md. Moidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khoksa Police Station, said the forest department reported that a young man named Saddam from Ambaria had caught a dolphin from the Padma River, killed it and made a TikTok video. “After receiving the complaint from the forest department, we registered a case and arrested the accused immediately,” he said. “The dolphin could not be recovered. We have requested the suspect’s remand in court. We will continue our efforts to recover the dolphin.”
During initial interrogation, the accused said a van puller had been carrying the dolphin past his house, and he took it from him to make the video, police said. The suspect said he could recognize the van puller by face but did not know his name.
