DHAKA — Jamaat-e-Islami and seven allied parties will hold a joint rally in the capital Tuesday, Nov. 11, demanding the issuance of an order to implement the July National Charter and a referendum, among five demands. The rally will be held at Paltan intersection at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The eight parties had submitted a memorandum to the chief adviser last Thursday outlining their five demands. Jamaat-e-Islami’s nayeb-e-ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher announced the Nov. 11 Dhaka rally at the time, saying the parties would proceed if their demands were not met.

According to sources, the rally will be chaired by Islami Andolan ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim. Speakers will include Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, Nezame Islam Party ameer Maulana Sarwar Kamal Azizi, JAGPA president barrister Tasmiya Pradhan, Khelafat Majlis ameer Maulana Abdul Basit Azad, Khelafat Andolan ameer Maulana Habibullah Miyaji, and Bangladesh Development Party president Advocate Anwarul Haque Chan.

Jamaat-e-Islami held a preparatory meeting Sunday on implementing the eight-party rally. The meeting discussed various aspects of executing the rally and assigned responsibilities to make it successful.

The meeting was chaired by Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and attended by assistant secretaries general Maulana A.T.M. Mashum, Dr. Hamidur Rahman Ayad, Maulana Abdul Halim, and Advocate Ehsanul Mahboob Jubayer; Dhaka north city nayeb-e-ameer Abdur Rahman Musa; Dhaka south city nayeb-e-ameer Abdus Sabur Faqir; and Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, among others.

Meanwhile, Islami Andolan Bangladesh held a preparatory meeting at its central office in Purana Paltan on Sunday afternoon ahead of Tuesday’s rally. The party’s secretary general, Maulana Yunus Ahmad, said the opportunity to repair the state created through the mass uprising must not be wasted under any circumstances.

“A memorandum was submitted to the chief adviser on Nov. 6. We had expected that the chief adviser would take a positive decision recognizing the importance of our demands. But we have been disappointed. So our pre-announced program will be reflected in the streets, God willing,” he said.
