DHAKA — Women’s safety at the workplace will be ensured if Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is elected and forms the next government, party chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said.
He made the remarks Monday night as chief guest at a reception organized by the “Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Supporters’ Group” for the Mirpur-Kafrul area (Dhaka-15 constituency) on the grounds of the Islami Bank Model School and College in Mirpur in the capital.
The Jamaat chief said a women’s employment policy would be put in place. “Women in the workplace will work five hours and receive eight hours’ wages,” he said. “The employer will pay for five hours and the government will pay for three. Women who do household work will be honored as treasure-bearing mothers. Women who want to work eight hours will also be honored.”
“If I am elected, you will not need to come to me — I will come to you and resolve your problems on a priority basis,” he said.
The work of the young is not yet done, Shafiqur Rahman said, and they must clear away the filth from every part of society.
“Bangladesh is in many troubles because of the lack of good education,” he said. “If God gives us the chance to form a government, we will educate every child properly and change this rotten society, God willing.”
In his chair’s address, Abdur Rahman Musa urged everyone to work together to elect Shafiqur Rahman from the Dhaka-15 seat in the upcoming national parliamentary election in order to build a Bangladesh free of corruption, injustice and indecency.
Before joining the reception, the Jamaat chief offered Maghrib prayers at Masjidul Aqsa Jame Masjid and Esha prayers at Masjidur Rahman Jame Masjid in Senpara. After the prayers, he gave brief remarks and exchanged greetings with worshippers.
He requested the worshippers to follow the Quran and Sunnah inside and outside the mosque to bring peace back to the lives of the country’s people, and said all development work in society should be carried out under the supervision of mosques. He called on young people to play a leading role in the future, as in the past, in driving out evil and establishing good in the country.
Urging voters to choose honest rulers in the upcoming election by making decisions in line with God and the path of the Prophet, he said: “If God gives us the responsibility, we will work as guardians of your trust, God willing.”
The reception was chaired by Abdur Rahman Musa, deputy chief of the Jamaat’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit, and conducted by Atik Hasan Rayhan, acting chief of the Kafrul West Police Station unit. Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, assistant secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit, was a special guest.
Also present were Shah Alam Tuhin, working committee member of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit and member secretary for the Dhaka-15 seat; working committee member Mohammad Shahidullah; zone team member Jasimuddin; Workers’ Welfare Federation Kafrul zone director Mizanur Rahman; labor leaders Nesar Uddin and Mizanur Rahman; and Kafrul West Police Station working committee members Matiur Rahman, Mohammad Saifullah, Khondaker Mahbubur Rahman, Sultan Mahmud, Nasimul Gani and Aminur Rahman Aman, along with other local leaders.
