DHAKA — Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia attended a reception at Senakunja in the Dhaka Cantonment on Friday, where she was received by Army Chief Gen. Waker-uz-Zaman and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan.
Khaleda Zia was seated next to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the event. Yunus and Khaleda Zia were seen exchanging pleasantries with smiles.
Khaleda Zia left her Gulshan residence Firoza for the cantonment at 4 p.m. Friday. Traveling in the same car were Syeda Shamila Rahman Sinthi, wife of her late younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, and Nasreen Iskandar, wife of her late brother Sayeed Iskandar.
The BNP chairperson’s motorcade was accompanied by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the head of Khaleda Zia’s medical board, Prof. Shahabuddin Talukder, and BNP standing committee member A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain.
In addition to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, party standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salah Uddin Ahmed and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed attended the event at Senakunja.
Khaleda Zia had appeared publicly at last year’s Senakunja event after six years.
Due to various health issues, she does not now take part in any political programs. She has been seen in public only once in the past year. On the night of Oct. 8, she visited the grave of her late husband, former President Ziaur Rahman, at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
