Dengue kills 8 in 24 hours, hospitalizes 778 across Bangladesh

DHAKA — Eight people died of dengue fever transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, and 778 others were hospitalized in the same period, the Directorate General of Health Services said. The figures were released Sunday in a daily dengue bulletin from the directorate’s Health Emergency Operations Center and control room.

Of the eight people who died, three were from Mymensingh division outside city corporation areas, two from Dhaka South City Corporation, and one each from Dhaka, Chattogram and Barishal divisions, the directorate said.

Among the 778 patients hospitalized in the past 24 hours, 83 were in Barishal division outside city corporation areas, 134 in Chattogram division outside city corporation areas, 121 in Dhaka division outside city corporation areas, 129 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 81 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 112 in Khulna division outside city corporation areas, 44 in Mymensingh division outside city corporation areas, 48 in Rajshahi division outside city corporation areas, 19 in Rangpur division outside city corporation areas and 7 in Sylhet division outside city corporation areas, the directorate said.

A total of 1,111 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours. So far this year, 87,442 patients have been discharged.

In 2024, a total of 101,214 people were infected with dengue in the country and 575 died. The previous year, 2023, saw the highest dengue toll on record, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 patients hospitalized.
