DHAKA — The schedule for Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election will be announced in the first half of December, and observer lists must be submitted to the Election Commission within 10 days of the announcement, Election Commissioner Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Abul Fazle Md. Sanaullah said Tuesday.

The Election Commission held a day-long dialogue Tuesday with representatives of domestic observer organizations ahead of the polls. The talks began at 10:30 a.m. at the Election Building, where Sanaullah delivered the remarks.

Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin urged caution that those appointed as election observers should not have any political affiliations or ties to any political party.

“The 2026 election will be the most transparent in the history of Bangladesh,” Sanaullah said. “No leniency will be shown to anyone who tries to undermine it. The next parliamentary election will be participatory. Voter turnout will be high.”

In a stern message to observers, he said no observer, whether an individual or institution, would be allowed to show any kind of bias. Observer lists must be filed with the Election Commission within 10 days of the schedule announcement, he said.

Sanaullah said observers will perform their duties for three days: the day before the election, election day and the day after. The Election Commission will also take strict steps this time to identify and prevent fraudulent observers, he said. Observer identity cards will carry QR codes to help prevent forgery.
