DHAKA — Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was sworn in as amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for the 2026-2028 term Friday evening at the Al-Falah auditorium in the capital.
Rahman was elected with the highest number of votes in a secret ballot of party members, known as rukons, held from Oct. 9 to Oct. 25 across the country.
After voting concluded, the designated team finished counting the ballots. The chief election commissioner formally announced the results on the night of Nov. 1, declaring Rahman elected as amir for the 2026-2028 term with the most votes.
