CHANDPUR — Ball at his feet, Argentina jersey on his back. His control of the ball is uncanny. When the ball is at his feet, spectators watch transfixed. At just 5 and a half years old, Sohan has shown extraordinary football talent.
He dribbles past defenders much like Lionel Messi, and his rainbow flick is straight out of Neymar’s playbook. He can keep the ball on his feet for minute after minute, like any star footballer. Most of those who have watched his recent viral videos online are amazed, asking what this boy will become when he grows up.
Sohan dreams of becoming a footballer like Lionel Messi. His football skills and his stated ambition at such a young age have gone viral on social media, attracting the attention of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman. Impressed by Sohan’s football talent, Tarique Rahman has arranged for former national team captain Aminul Haque to take responsibility for the boy and his family.
Sohan trains every morning and evening with help from his father, Sohel Pradhania, a bicycle mechanic by profession. The family lives in Sare Panch Ani village in ward 1 of Jahirabad union in Chandpur’s Matlab North upazila. Pradhania said his son has no formal coach. Since the age of three and a half, he has been teaching the boy various football skills himself. The boy’s passing, dribbling past opponents and rainbow flicks are so impressive that people watching are captivated. Sohan’s age, the style of play for his age and his confidence in speaking only add to the wonder. Pradhania said he had planted in his son the dream of becoming a great footballer.
