RANGAMATI — Border Guard Bangladesh has detained six people, including two Indian nationals, on charges of illegally entering Bangladesh by river in Rangamati. The two Indian nationals are Suresh Chakma, 39, and Arangkhan Chakma, 30. Both are residents of Tripuraghat in Dimagiri sub-district of Lunglei district in India. The names of the four Bangladeshi nationals who allegedly aided them have not been disclosed.
They were detained Friday evening, Nov. 15, in Barkal upazila of Rangamati.
Lt. Col. Md. Masud Al Ferdous, commanding officer of the 45 BGB Battalion in Barkal, Rangamati, confirmed the incident. He told Dhaka Mail that around 5:30 p.m. the two Indian nationals had crossed illegally into Bangladesh through the Choto Harina border point from Tipraghat in India’s Mizoram state. They then hired a speedboat with the help of four Bangladeshi nationals. The speedboat had been rented for 800 taka and was traveling along the river toward Rangamati when it was intercepted.
