NOAKHALI — A nonprofit group distributed blankets to 250 underprivileged people in the Charbata union of Noakhali’s Subarnachar upazila as cold weather intensified along the coast, organizers said.
The IFSD Foundation distributed the blankets to the destitute, including widows and people with disabilities. Organizers said they were pleased to support vulnerable people again this year.
The blankets were distributed in the afternoon on the grounds of the East Charbata School and College.
Organizers said the IFSD Foundation has worked since its founding on development and livelihood support for the poor, from urban centers to remote areas. With temperatures dropping in the coastal Noakhali region, life has become difficult for the destitute, they said. The foundation’s winter program, called “Smile of Warmth,” distributes blankets to bring some relief to the needy.
The chief guest at the distribution event was Mohammad Saleh Uddin, principal of the East Charbata School and College. Special guests included Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, president of the IFSD Foundation; Rakib Hossain Shubho, organizational secretary; the journalist Mizanur Rahman Riyad; Abdul Bari Bablu; Mujahidul Islam Sohel; and Arifur Rahman, among others.
